Over the years running a boarding establishment we have had problems with owners with unvaccinated or partially vaccinated animal which we have had to refuse to board due to: only had an injection to fleas; only had the first injection but the owner says the vet said it was ok! (and some vets have told us it is ok); cat does not go out so the cat does not need vaccinateing and the vet has agreed; cat/ dog is elderly so no longer needs vaccinating; resue societies(incl RSPCA) sold cats vaccinated but there was no record card provided to check so we assumed not vaccinated; we rang the vet for one owner who had forgotten their card and the vet said 'oh, yes I would have done it' but when asked when it was done he said that records were in the other surgery and he was only doing it from memory !!!!( we refused the dog until we saw the card the owners left and did not come back); vaccination stickers in but no signature by the vet( stickers had been put on card but just before vaccinateing found a problem and so had not vaccinated, but had given an injection which the owners assumed was the vaccination!); after a lapse of over 2 years one injections done ( we assume need to go back 3 weeks later but no note on the card) and so we ring the vet to check or if a Bank Hoilday refuse . Finally we wrote to the vaccine manufacturers for their recommendations and went by them. Over the years this has lead to many confontations with owners as to what is a vaccinated pet due to our licencing requirements, and how often it requires a booster vaccine. Why cannot all vets sing from the same hymn sheets.

Sorry for the rant but it is one of my annoyances

Have come across this problem many many times - where do they get the vaccine?- Ireland - where it can still be bought over the counter (unless things have changed very very recently). You often find one breeder will go across and buy a load of vaccine and then redistribute it among their breeder friends.

Mmmm, thats interesting Sal, you say Ireland? Which area, Northern Ireland or in the south?? I work in a practice in Northern Ireland and I can honestly say, we do not carry out this kind of behaviour.

Re: Breeders doing vaccinations

I have also seen vaccination records which are supposedly from other practices that are completely blank except for the batch numbers.
As for the tripe, I will never understand breeder obsession with it??!
