i locumed in the practice for a few months and have been a perminant member of staff for a few weeks now and my hair has been this colour since day 1!!!

glad its not just me who thought it was out of line!!

lets see what today holds lol

how rude lol!!! reminds me of a practice manager (if you could call her that!) that had at least 3 vibrant colours to her hair - pink, purple and a yellow streak in front (quite badger-esque) i had the misfortune to work for telling the young kennel assistant his pastel blue hair was unacceptable...ermmmm pot kettle black springs to mind !

I am pretty sure that you had a bindi on your forehead they would not be complaining due to racism etc... as far as I am concerned this is one and the same, if you choose to have plum hair, who the hell are your employers to say you cannot??.... sorry but we are at the stage now where no offence is tolerated so I would assume offence at this..... how dare they say what colour your hair should be.... maybe go to the old goat elders of the practice and say you are offended at their grey hair... see how they feel.....policy or not it's not bloody on what colour hair you can have...... that is waaaay outa line as far as I am concerned.

so you're not still with CVS then, as it says in your profile?

I only ask as you need to check your contract/practice policy and see what it says. I personally think that complaining about someone's hair colour is rather petty, but employers can say what they want as long as it IS actually in the policy. If you are still at CVS then others working for the same company may be able to comment....

I agree with Dippy, if your hair has been like it for a while and you have been working at the practice for a while and it hasn't been an issue then it seems strange for it to suddenly have become a problem. It also seems a bit weird to have a problem with red hair, even if its not a natural red colour, when it is not uncommon for people do dye their hair this colour, its not as though you have decided you want your hair blue or green.

Surely if you've worked there with that hair colour for a while, have had no compaints about it previously and are competent at your job, they can't suddenly claim it's an issue now? I worked in a practice where a student didn't get the job due to a nose piercing which made me mad as she wasn't given the option of a job if she removed it for work but was (imho) a better candidate than the one chosen. Still, not my practice, not my decision!

is there anything in your contract? I have worked places where it has been covered in the contract re maintaining a professional appearance and that is open to many interpretations visible tattoos, piercings have been limited to one in each ear and a plain pair of studs only to be worn and no facial piercings at all save the ones already present at the time of employment I have seen highlighted. I have also seen mentioned hairstyles and colours so it might be worth checking
