One of my clients found out about it on the internet while researching alternative "therapies" to tablets/surgery/radiotherapy. I checked the hills website and it claims to restore euthyroidism within

Re: Hills y-d: new low-iodine diet to "treat" hyperthyroidism?!

I heard about it a few months ago and believe that the study data released by Hills was pretty good!
Great for immediate weight gain, but what about long term..?!

The dry stuff can't be that energy dense if it's mostly soy? Also heard that cats who are not hypert4 should not be fed on y-d alone; bit of a pain in multicat households.

but you don't want them to gain weight too quicky!!!!!

that info has come off the hills us site and their feeding guide only states 100g for a 8kg cat so must be that energy dense, primary ingredient is corn gluten meal followed by animal fats

will be speaking to a few feline specialists that i know as well to get their input as well as the internal medics i work with

Re: Hills y-d: new low-iodine diet to "treat" hyperthyroidism?!

It's just been launched here in the US but from what I understand its claiming a lot more than what its actually capable of. I don't think it claims to restore euthyroid within 3 weeks but improve thyroid health within 3 weeks, I think claiming euthyroid would be pushing reality actually providing false claims.

I am going to try and speak to my friend who (last I heard) was a hills rep and see what she has to say.

I also have a major concern that cats fed on this diet will become obese very quickly...it's 414kcal/100g!!!!!!

Re: Hills y-d: new low-iodine diet to "treat" hyperthyroidism?!

Can't find any relevant articles on JSFM either
