Did you say you did it as a long distance learning course? How much was it, and how long is the course? - I am considering doing it myself as I think it would really benefit the practice

Thanks alot for your lovely long answer - very helpful. I will need the good luck i think but at least if i fail, i'll know what to expect when i do the re-sit!

I did whole companion animal and equine exams as i was a SVN at the time not the VN top up one so not sure if will be different but doubt it will be that different

hello i am no longer an SQP but did the oral exam couple of years ago. they check you know what to ask clients, what you would do to prescribe and dispense, check you know how to check expiry date, show them where on the product to find (i wanna say manufacturer's) number, general talk about SQP regulations etc. think they asked me what would you prescribe for worming a pregnant bitch or something like that. suffered more from my nerves than from the questions! it's really not that bad and the written exam is fine too if you are qualified or student who has already covered this stuff. know what parasite each drug is for (ie generic names), know the life cycle for EVERYTHING!, know the regulations inside out, drug categories, when not to dispense to someone, always say you will check they know how to use drug and would not supply drug if you were not happy they would use it correctly or cannot provide accurate/recent weight etc just sensible stuff, also know exactly what has to go on the dispensing labels. hope this helps :)

I guess it'll just be to check how confident you sound in your answers.

As I say, in my experience, a lot of it was just day-to-day things you would be saying to clients all the time in practice, so *hopefully* it shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks, is hard when you're learning from home to know what to expect. The oral is supposed to check your competence but i dont know how or what they ask - eeek!

Ooh, I didn't have an oral part when I did it....

However, the written part was a lot about premises & storage regulations, written prescriptions, NFA-VPS meds, flea & worm products - you had to draw the life cycle of the flea!

I stressed that I was underprepared too, but as long as you know the regulation stuff, the rest of it is just everyday nursing knowledge/common sense really.
