I'm not sure what it means by NIBP (with venous punch), I'm probably being thick but would that not make it invasive opposed to Non-invasive

Re: Blood pressure monitor

As somebody has previously said it depends on what you are using it for but i must say for non invasive bp measurements i do love the doppler, from memory though i think they cost about £500, don't quote me on this though!

Re: Blood pressure monitor

As you said NIBP is Non-invasive so would NOT involve catheterising an artery. Many monitors (as it looks like this one does) come with oscillometric NIBP as standard and then you have the option to purchase invasive blood pressure cables and transducers as an extra if you want to measure invasive (or direct) BP by catheterising an artery.

I have never heard of a 'venous punch' before but it doesn't sound like it is linked to the direct BP as that wouldn't involve the term 'venous' because it is an artery! ...But then saying that the oscillometric detects pulsing blood flow through an artery so doen't involve veins either!

sounds like a term coined by that manufacturer to me?!

Re: Blood pressure monitor

ok, so this was bugging me,

i think the unit can do NIBP (non invasive) and IVP (venous punch) (invasive direct bp measuring), however this may be an optional extra. i would assume that this unit is oscillometric, giving systolic, diastolic and MAP (mean arterial pressure), this is fine for easy routine anaesthetic bp monitoring. however the most accurate method is direct.

i guess it depends what you want to use the unit for.

hope this is of use- link to external pdf on gh3 monitor (i assume this is the one you were looking at??)

i cant help re the venous punch, not familiar with that term.
