I am hoping to come traveling to oz in a few months. Could i ask how much money did you take with you and are you in oz for majority work and travel and are you planning on traveling to asia or anywhere else?

How long does each placement lasts for? And what items did you take with you to work? Have to travelled to oz on your own? Do the placements have accomodation?

You need to get a working holiday visa which lasts for 1 year. You can extend the visa a further year by doing 3 months regional work (fruit picking/ farm work). The visa costs about 100 pounds which you can get online or I got mine through STA travel. It is only offered to people below the age of 30.

unfortunately i've already used my working holiday visa so i can't use that visa again. i loved australia the first time i travelled and was hoping being qualified would help me to live there permanently. I know our job isn't on the list so my only way would be to get sponsored.

my concern is trying to find a practice to sponsor me, when i can't work for them and show them my nursing abilities. i'm worried no practice would want to spend thousands to sponsor someone they don't know. :(

have you heard of people being sponsored for vet nursing?

i'm pleases your having an amazing time, i'm very jealous!! lol

hi,

i've been searching through old posts for some answers for a couple of questions. just wondering if one is able to help me...

i'm currently doing the dip level3 and will be finishing my 1st yr this summer. if everything goes to plan i'm hoping to be qualified by 2014 summer as it is now a three year course. my questions are... where do i start to try to find a veterinary clinic to sponsor me, to enable me to live in australia using the permanent visa? i've already used my working holiday visa so that would not be an option.

i'm also starting to look into obtaining a NZ working visa if i'm unsuccessful at getting an australian one. The websites i have looked at regarding veterinary jobs for NZ have either no jobs or job adverts from many months ago. does this mean it is very hard to get veterinary jobs out there?

I dont know if this will help but I've recently come back from NZ after doing some travelling and work.

I contacted a few practices prior to me going out to see if they would offer me any work and sent my CV.

I was very lucky as had alot of good feedback and replies. I ended up doing some holiday cover for 6 weeks which was great and they offered me a place if we would have stayed.

Sometimes its good to get a contact and go from there.

Hi!

I'm looking to do the same within the next few years (I'm also 24 so am thinking sooner rather than later!). I contacted Vetlink by email and they were very helpful.They mentioned the possibility of employer sponsorship but as this is an expensive option for employers it doesn't come about very often.

If you do find any useful info then I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know!

Ok thank you for that. I have had a look at the embacy website and it says you have to be between 18 and 30 years old for a working holiday visa (which is the one I want for now). I hope that is correct otherwise if it is 26 then I don't have much time as I am already 24.

When I get out there does anybody know if it is like this country where I can just locum and sign up to an agency?

Our profession isn't on their skilled emigrant list and alone, it isn't enough in terms of points to obtain a visa to live there.

If it was just for a holiday, you can get a working holiday visa (Check age limit - last I looked ,it was 26 years old).

However, if you wanted to live there, you can get sponsored by an employer in Australia for a visa and if you have that, it's enough to obtain a resident visa.

Our skills from the UK are very much in demand by Aussie vets!
