So, we have nurses doing a theatre rotation, kennels rotation, some drug ordering (which I'm trying my best to automate so they don't have

Re: Rotas........what do people think

With the variety of jobs out there these days, I would not apply for a nursing position in which I had to work nights along with my day shifts. The same is happening with vets - fewer and fewer vets are prepared to do OOH work at all, regardless of pay. It was a major reason we contracted out our OOH work as we struggled to employ vets. IMHO the only option (which was prohibitively expensive for us, and many others) is to employ staff to just work the nights and weekends.

Re: Rotas........what do people think

I think that nurses are starting to realise that they dont have to work nights now we have an option. It used to be when we trained that you expected to have to do your fair share of night work. It sounds like an average sort of package considering you have nights thrown in. At least you pay the nurses (see my other posts!!) for their nigts. I think Im with Sal though you would probably be better trying to find a pair of dedicated night nurses to share the night rota (if your paying double time for nights anyway this shouldnt cost much more?) I would personally prefer to work either a night rota or a day rota not a mixture of both. I dont think you would find it hard to find nurses to work dedicated nights. It sounds like you have everyones best interests at heart just by posting on here for opinions so im sure you are a lovely place to work :)

Re: Rotas........what do people think

would it be worth you having 1 member of staff that just does nights (and there are those that will) so that the remaining staff have fewer nights to work? would that make it any better or more attractive? tbh the only times I have worked a mixture of days and night shifts it has really screwed me up healthwise. I would much rather work all days or all nights.
