I've been a VNA for 4 years and i fancy doing something more at work, i was reading up on puppy parties and it seems like something i'd like to do. i was just wondering if i'd be able to do it with me not being a qualified nurse? i was thinking of doing the 'puppy seminar' at the college of animal welfare in march and then maybe set something up? i know ill probably have to discuss it with the boss/head nurse but i was thinking if im doing it in my own time and not charging clients will it be possible?

[/quote]

I'd just like to chime in and say you don't need to be a qualified nurse to attend our course, promise! :)

If a puppy party is well run, it can be a very positive selling point for your practice! As long as you're not performing acts of veterinary surgery or telling people how to diagnose their dogs, then there's no particular reason you shouldn't be well able to run a puppy party in your practice. Boss's permission of course, but there's loads of client goodwill in there that many practices would be glad to have!

Kind regards,

There is an excellent book by Sarah Whitehead - Best practice puppy parties, its got lots of advise on setting up and running puppy parties and i would highly recommend it.

The thing with puppy parties is they can either be a really good or really bad experience for puppies so you have to make sure you are aware of signs of stress and managing off lead play sessions to try and avoid any incidents etc. Might be worth speaking to a local puppy trainer/behaviourist for help and advice whilst you are setting up.

Hope this helps.
