I had the purple copy for my VN training and sold it when I qualified, however now doing my diploma and the new edition has a lot to offer esp stuff on nursing care plans and ethics. Nursing seems to have come on a long way since the previous edition and I think that is reflected in the newer edition.

Not wanting to take over the thread, but I'm a nearly qualified nurse (only pracs left) and I've lost my 4th edition manual. I work in a small animal practice and have no interest in large animal or equine nursing. Do you think I'd be better buying the 5th edition or sticking to the 4th edition?

You can always use Amazon's trade-in's - that's what I did with my 4th edition.

You download a postage label (free) from the website and send the book to them, if it's in an ok condition they give you money for it (I got £24ish) in the form of a gift voucher to use against another purchase. If they dont think it's in a good condition they send it back to you free of charge.

Seemed like a reasonable offer if you can't find a taker for your old one!

Yeah I've got it & I loved it I'm a 2nd year SVN but never bothered with the 4th edition as we knew the new 1 was due to come out & our tutor got it at discount price of £40 for us on pre-order before it was even out, another 1 I'd reccomend is Victoria aspinalls complete textbook of veterinary nursing x

The new edition is definitely worth getting if you are a student VN. The syllabus has changed rather a lot and the previous edition will not contain all the information required to get you through the exams. The alternative is to purchase an equine nursing book. I highly recommend 'The Equine Veterinary Nursing Manual' by Karen Coumbe.

The pink book has everything in it for the new award, lots of equine stuff, ethics law and stuff, you will def need it if your a student just now x
