Maybe the powers that be, read this thread and decided a nurses meeting was needed!! If you were thinking it maybe other SVNs were thinking it too!

Hi all, i feel so much better at the practice now, wev recently just had are first meeting as nurses and it did make me feel so much more valued. They asked the students if we can make the practice better or ease our work then they would change. Im really pleased and feel so much better. Its just what us students needed and gave us the oppurtinity to talk im confidence around all the staff. I can now say that they do care and are really are trying to improve

and can I add - if you stick with it, once you have qualified remember what your early days were like in practice and try to make them a bit more pleasant for those coming in after you - if we all did this we could make the job so much better.

i agree, stick with it and things will get better. or get your qualifications and get the hell outta there.

BUT......

be careful, a lot of employers and senior nurses read these forums and if they recognise who you are you could make more trouble for youself.

Hang in there and look at it that when you qualify you will know all the things not to do. Use life as a learning experience and decide how you can help others who end up with your or similar problems.

Its such a relief to me that I can vent my anger on here and get the opinions of other people, it really helps alot so thank you all. Im just praying that I pass my practicals and theory qs so I can get out!!

haha i did exactly that - although moved 3 weeks before my final exams!

however passed them all and LOVE my new practice!

yes, just keep your head down, put on your best smiley face and get your qualification, then you can stick two fingers up and move on! Actually its better to leave on good terms, the veterinary world seems to be quite a small one and you never know when you might need that reference... I hope everything works out for you, remember you can always come and vent on here!

I think they just arent very nice hun. My goal now is to get qualified and get out asap!I desperately want to qualify and im petrified I may not, so much so that I said id only do it this once and then may move. We also have a fear that if we dont pass wel get sacked, honestly i think about it all the time. Sometimes i feel I really am going round the twist and the other student who has had time off is depressed but I probably sound awful when I say this but he gets away with a lot because of it. Basically in this practice your business is there business so thats why I tell them nothing now and im not as talkative about any problems because of it. I really really hope I pass and gwt my portfolio done or im screwed!

Oh my, sounds like you're all having a rough time there! What difference does it make to the practice whether she takes some time out from training? were they relying on her to qualify for some reason? or do they feel that she should just press ahead with things for her own good? Maybe they do not fully understand her reasons or possibly they really just aren't very nice.. As for the other student having more time off, I assume there is no good reason for this? do you have a contract? It should set out the number of hours on average you are expected to work. How does the other student feel about having the time off? they will be losing pay, after all. It isn't very nice that they seemed unconcerned after your accident, but sometimes I think people in a management position try to keep such a distance from other staff it can make them seem uncaring. Or maybe as I said they just aren't very nice. If thats the case then I would advise that you leave as soon as you can find another job, however its difficult when training and you need to think carefully before giving up a training position. But then if its getting you down to the point where you genuinely hate going in every day then your mental health is more important... would it be possible to all have a meeting and outline some of your concerns? At least you will have tried.
