How wierd, would def report it, they should have asked for permission to do this. We once had a client who had cat PTS then when we left she obv made some sort of shrine around her dead cat, took a pic of it then sent it to the vet who did it. I thought it was a bit morbid but he didnt mind it and kept this picture for years. i suppose everyone is different and deal with things in different ways but in this case the clients didnt even consider your privacy and just went ahead and videoed the euth.

Was wondering how you got on Rachel ? What did your practice manager say / do?

It also got me renumbering another client we had years ago - back in 1992, when the Dangerous Dogs Act came in our practice was involved in the neutering, tattoo-ing and micro-chipping of APBTs. One guy was distraught at having to have his dog neutered and asked us to put the testicles in formaldehyde so he could send them to the Home Secretary "with a stiff letter".

People can be strange.....

I've never been photographed or filmed, but have had a few weird experiences. Like the man that asked us to pull out his terriers canine teeth because he wanted to stroke them, and the person who didn't understand that PTS meant euthanasia and wanted to know when the dog would wake up (I hasten to add in this case there was a carer involved who did fully understand and was acting as a guardian to a very confused elderly lady).

grief is a funny thing, but some horsey folks keep their dead horses feet, and put golden shoes on them, so post mortem mutilation isn't all that weird really.

Surely that must be illegal to video you in that way. That would mega freak me out too....ok we all have seen clients who 'deal with things' by wanting 'fur' or 'photos' and that is their choice but I'd be straight onto the police with your practice backing ...its beyond odd. Especially the 'wanting the cats tail' thing ? They should not have been videoing that without practice permission surely.

The data protection website says I have to inform the police...which I was considering in the first instance anyway, so I'll see what the practice manager has to say on the matter tomorrow.

Funnily enough we were talking about this at work today - I had a client video her dog pts in the summer so she could put it on You Tube to show her estranged b/f cos she didn't think he'd believe she'd had the dog pts (it was violent and out of control, not sick). I've also had a few clients take photos of their dead pets after pts. All very odd, but death and loss does affect people in different ways. Granted, most people would think it grotesque to ask for the cat's tail post mortem, but many take a sample of hair and no-one thinks that's strange.

Our client never You Tubed her video. I guess she found another way of sending it to her b/f, if she did at all. Did your's actually say that's they wanted to put their recording online? They may want to keep it just for family viewing, after all it's highly probable they already have a collection of kitty's life videos from the beginning. I suspect to them this was just her last film. Weird, morbid and possibly slightly creepy for most people, though.

Let us know how you get on, but in the meantime don't worry. Just hope they don't get a new kitten!!!!!!

May well find videoing you comes under data protection act as your permission wasnt asked and was a high stress situation you did not react as you should. I would contact the data protection office for some advice about it.

Oh & I've searched you tube for recently added videos of cats with that name & cat pts ones but haven't come across it yet...
