You can dictate tho, and ask for more for nights and bank holiday etc, and charge what you like for on calls. Sometimes the practice may make you an offer so its upto you wether you think its fair..

Re: Advice on locuming...

Hi there, ive locummed for two years and love it :)

Iv always either use an umberella company, or the practice have sorted tax etc if its a longer-term contract (i.e im locumming for 9months atm and they are putting me down as an employee ) therefore insurance isn't an issue either.

You can sign upto as many agencies as you like, and also send out your own cvs and advertise yourself as alocum, you free to take on work that you have found yourself you don't have to use an agency.

Don't worry about the experience, your a locum so you will see things done slightly different everywhere anyway so you will just pick things up as you go.

I really enjoy it and then if you find somewhere you love working they do, every so often, take locums on permanantly :)

Hope this helps!

Re: Advice on locuming...

I've always done my locuming through an agency, mainly because they do the leg work for you, I can't stand numbers and tax so the umbrella company sorts that out and insurance isn't an issue (usually) through an agency.

This accountant is in my home town and I know a number of locum vets who use them from all over the country- I don't see why they wouldn't help put a locum nurse as well http://www.agibsontaxation.co.uk/
