I got used to doing longer days very quickly! I actually prefer them to shorter days sometimes! Our holidays are worked out in hours to make everything fair for everyone. Much easier then trying to work out days if you're having a day off during the week, however it took a while to get used to doing it this way. Hope it all works out for you! x

Re: Rotas and holidays

I do 4 days plus weekends on a rota. My shift is 8.30-7.00 or 11.00-9.30 and although the days are long it means i get a thursday off :)

I like it this way because i can do stuff on my day off that i can't do at the weekend like go to the bank or dentist etc.

You get used to the long days.

Re: Rotas and holidays

Awww I loved working that pattern. Found I could do stuff like book drs appts etc without any hassle. We converted our holiday into hours so then if somebody took half day it was 5 hrs and so on. Worked out pretty well and easy done on a spread sheet. :)

Re: Rotas and holidays

Hi,

I've done periods of 4 day weeks with longer shifts and really appreciated the day off. We worked out the holidays by breaking it down to hours. It worked out more accurate that way and you could take a half days holiday that was a proper half day, not just a few hours off, but you use up half a day, as so often seems to happen!

I think 10 hour days constantly would be a killer, However regarding the holidays I would think it would be the same as part time so pro rata so would be eligible for 16 days holiday (not including the normal day off) and ideally would have to take it off in week blocks. don't forget everytime someone takes holiday there will be days when you are down 2 nurses.

what is your current rota? I would prefer to actually have a half day every week and have worked that into rotas quite well in the past

Re: Rotas and holidays

I used to do 4 days a week - 8:30 till 6:30. I loved it. A day off in the week is lovely to relax or make appointments for things that you cant do at the weekends. We had to take holiday in week blocks. I used to get 16 days I think so would take 4 days hol and have the other day as a normal day off.
