All practices should promote to their staff and clients

We all have worked very hard to gain our qualification and it should be protected!I do not understand why this is not uniting VN's?I know practices have a range of very experienced unqualified or animal assistants but this is nothing personal to them. We should want this title protected to give ourselves the respect we deserve and to reassure clients that we are qualified and highly competent in caring for their pets.

We all need to work together to try and make a change. I know in the past other great people have tried to make change and some have been successful and other have not but this is what is happening NOW and we ALL need to work together for it to be a success and be heard.

As far as i understand it it doesn't have anything to do with who is in charge of VN's all the "bodies" she mentions are just saying they support protection of the title - not they they want to control it.

I have copied this description explaining reason for petition from goverment web site.

The title veterinary nurse is not protected, despite all veterinary nurses listed with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) having undertaken at least two years of training in order to safeguard animal health and welfare. Only those who are on the non-statutory RCVS Register have formally committed to keeping their skills and knowledge up to date by way of continuing professional development, follow a code of conduct and agree to be accountable for their professional practice. Meanwhile, there are individuals who call themselves veterinary nurses who have no formal veterinary nurse education and training. We the undersigned therefore call on Government to support the work of the RCVS Veterinary Nurses Council, the British Veterinary Nursing Association and the British Veterinary Association to introduce a statutory regime for the regulation of veterinary nurses that will serve the public interest, and better protect animal health and welfare.

IT IS NOT MY PETITION!

It has been started by BVNA after years of fighting for recognition of qualified VN's. As i am sure you know that without regulation anyone can call themselves a veterinary nurse, and for any changes to our status and eventually salary, we need to set ourselves apart from "animal care assistants" no matter how experienced they are.

I feel strongly that we need this to happen and this is a great opportunity to raise public awareness, i am fed up of been thought of as a "receptionist" (no disrespect to receptionists) but in fairness how are the public supposed to know the difference ....... oh sorry, we have a new badge!! This is why i am posting on here and on Facebook, my practice website and in practice newsletters - not for any personal gain but for the benefit of all RVN's

I would be very interested to hear why you don't agree with it?

Re: Only 761.....??!!!

copied from the petition page - the links dont work on here or vetpol.

I disagree with this petition because it differs from the original in that the original petition was all about protecting the veterinary nurse title - not about deciding who should be in charge be it VN Council, BVNA, BVA or anybody else who wanted in on it. There are far too many groups and individuals dictating or trying to dictate what will and wont happen in my opinion. TBH I am surprised SPVS didnt get their mention as well.

Re: Only 761.....??!!!

same here, blocked at work!

Re: Only 761.....??!!!

The links not working from my computer.....
