Ermm Kerry never been quiet at pm on xmas day it never is if you want quiet then do new years eve till pubs come out then you can have quiet.

well my christmas shift was quiet!!!!!

we only had about 10 inpatients which was dead for us and in the time I was there the phone stayed quiet!!! I understand they had all the emergencies on boxing day!!!

I actually enjoyed it able to use my nursing skills to the full and Xmas went very fast Petmedics has 999 at end of its phone number....it defo seemed to be the fourth emergency service over Xmas!!!!!!

OMG!!! You poor thing KB. I had a very quiet on call compared to you guys. I only had a boarding cat to be given meds and obs, Rabbit to syringe feed, medicate and try and encourage to feed, 2 kittens with squitty bums (coccidiosis) to medicate and feed and clean up after and a pancreatitis dog. All inpatients and 1 call out to a dog that had been attacked on Christmas eve 1pm but the owners wanted to have the vet see it at 9pm that night but it was a clip and clean give meds and dispense more meds to continue with at home. Was in today for check up all fine. I also got to go home at 1pm Christmas day was only on from 4pm Christmas eve.

OMG when I was told Xmas Day at PetMedics is quiet they lied........I didnt stop from 7am-6pm....was manic these were just some of the many many many emergencies we were dealing with....dog in heart failure, dog with tracheal collapse & a pyometra, hamster off colour following a spay at own vets, kitten been stood on, anaemic/hypoglycaemia kitten (riddled with fleas), cat with portosystemic shunt, dog with splenic/prostatic tumour, 2 dogs chocolate toxicity, cat with pleural effusion, over 30 consults, about 10 euthanasies and a Corgi with a GDV......MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

lucky you. Had an exlap as soon as i got in, then pts x2, then sev dog fights one which needed surgery for a fractured jaw. Then 3 dog inpatients and 5 cat inpatients. No sit down and only one cup of tea

off for the night shift now

well, wasn't too bad, a steady stream of people through the day and two minor stitch ups. Managed to eat half a box of chocs but still enjoyed an evening dinner plus dessert plus cheeses and lots of tea

Looks like it might be ok for us.. just one possible parvo case in today that will def be there tomorrow. Just wait and see what the night staff get in! Let us know how it goes if you're working tomorrow

I have got 4 full days off for the first time in I cant remember how long!! yipeeeeeee! were just consulting today until the phonecalls stop (so far looks to be about 3pm fingers crossed) then were off! Happy Christmas everyone!! xx

Disc protrusion- T12/13. Surgeon wanted to do a fenestration, but I decided against it, with his age and just couldn't bare the thought of him having surgery, to be honest. But we've been very luckily and 4 weeks later, he's almost back to normal. We're gradually increasing his excercise now, but he's being a bit of a monkey! And we've hijacked the Christmas working thread!!!

Hey everyone,

Before I reply I would just like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I am working Xmas eve and day 7 - 3 and boxing day 7 - 3.30pm. I work in a referral practice so i'm hoping it want be to busy (fingers crossed)

The only sad thing about working this year is a wnat see family as I now live in the west midlands area having moved from Lancashire. Not massive move, but to far to pop home after work. But other than that, it will be fine. We are each taking some Xmas food into work for dinner and wearing Xmas hats. And we;ve done secret santa as well. So not all bad.

I'm working Christmas eve & on call, then off from 8.30am Christmas Day, until 8.30am Boxing Day. Then on call Mon and Tues. Might be quiet, but it might not!! You just never know here!

Working night: 22 - 25th so finish boxing day morning. I am really looking forward to it!!! Jumped at the chance to work back in practice - just praying now that it is going to be mega busy with loads of emergencies and interesting cases I am embarrassing excited about the chance to get my hands mucky again - I don't get much hands on nursing anymore so love it when I do Xmas - bring it on!

I have the New Year off though - though might be tempted to work it as well. I am officially a workaholic though - supposed to be on annual leave but ended up coming in a bit anyway as was missing working (I know!!!! I am officially insane...)

Being a layabout student now, I'm not working but even if I had been i wouldn' this year. I'm needed to help at home and worked one or the other for the last 2 years, cutting very short anytime with my family. Worked christmas day last year and was under a great deal of stress in practice (which some of you will know about after a long ranting PM on FB- thanks everyone you really helped) but it did culminate with me walking down to the beach and nearly walking out to sea coz I was at breaking point. Quiet Christmas at home has been ordered!

I have been locuming for the last few years so have not had to do Christmas but am now a permenant member of practice I have to be rotad into covering holiday periods.
