thank you all for your ideas, i unfortunatley cannot go with my original idea as my grandma to the grandad has taken a turn for the worst, so going away is out of the question. But whilst doing some research on the internet i have tracked down an author who lived and grew up in the same place as my grandad. (and where i live now) My grandad has many fond memories of here and often shares them with everyone. the author has written an amazing book called "changing faces" which is full of memories, photos, families old and new etc. She is going to bring one to my work on monday!! And the book is limited edition so there wernt many printed and its going to be signed too! I just know my grandad is going to love it!!

Think i will have to talk to my dad again tonight, and thanks for the idea of the wheelchair! I know from last time it was very very busy, but we could just stay at the back, as long as hes there thats the main thing i think. I really hope i can get him there, it would make him so happy!!!!

just had to take a pik on my iphone, upload it onto facebook via the iphone, then go onto facebook via the laptop save it so you can have an extremely up to date one lol so il attempt to get it on to my profile so if it gets there its her at this moment in time asleep on my bed next to some pillows

i know it sounds like a tiny idea compared to the rest but at asda they do birthday cakes which you can print pictures on (used to be my job designing them) but if you had a special picture of his or a picture from when you went on the last trip and saw the guards he might like that just makes a cake that much more special and you can write on them

would that be the coldstream guards?

Have you thought of writing to them and telling them his story - they might be able to suggest/help you out.

My grandad was a Royal Marine Commando in the last war - we were desperate to find him a suitable birthday present and at a loss for anything to do we contacted the royal marines (I actually did it through the services careers centre). We had wanted to take him to see the RM band at the auditorium near us but he was too ill. In the finish a group of bandsmen came to him(during their practice time). We organised a cake etc and went out into the hospital grounds - he loved it.

Thats exactly what i thought, i might speak to my dad a bit more about it. It was just me and my grandad that went last time, it was one of the best days iv ever had. i can see the gleam in his eyes if he knew he had the chance to go again. He has been in hospital after having lung cancer, but has fully recovered, and has the all clear. he is back out and about every day, just gets tierd a little bit more. hmmmm dunno what to do!!!

Why couldnt he do it Starbucks? If it only involved a car journey and you could get him a wheelchair so he wouldnt have to walk any distance?? That would be a real treat for him!

well what i really wanted to do with him was take him to london in June for trooping the colour and changing of the guards. He use to be a guard back in the day, and even served the queen! I took him about 8 or 9 years ago and he loved it, he was like a little kid in a chocolate factory!! He still talks about it to this day! But he has recently been in hospital after a few problems, and my dad doesnt think he will be able to cope with going. I know he would love it, it brought back so many memories for him, i wish i could do that again for him!!
