It's actually a huge problem getting credit when you haven't had credit, stupid isn't it but creditors like to see that you owe a bit of money but can pay things back, so having an overdraft and going into it a little bit is sometimes a good thing as is having a credit card and only paying back the minimum amount (this way the banks can earn money off you and your credit rating will increase)

I had this exact problem with HSBC when i wanted a credit card! I'd never been overdrawn but i wanted a credit card for emergencies. Having been with them for years and years I suggested that I would move my savings and current account to another more accomodating bank and they soon changed their tune!

The council had me running in circles, They put me down as Mr BengalcatRVN instead of Miss, but would only change it after speaking to Mr BengalcatRVN.....he doesn't blinking exist!! Still credit cards have never been a problem to me. Registering with a doc will be due to lack of passport and full driving lience......

I couldn't go with Nationwide as I didn't already have an account with them so I would have to be on the local electoral role

You'd think Virgin Media could "talk" to Virgin Credit card wouldn't you?? I still find it amazing that companies that are so closely linked by name seem to have no idea what the other is doing!!

I went through Tesco for a credit card - they are really good and you earn clubcard points too!! You can get it syncronised with your usual card so double the benefit! That was my first credit card aswell (applied abuot 18mths ago) and had no problems with them. Might be worth a look?
