Hi Robocop, I am also looking for courses on large animal/farm nursing. Where abouts are you? Do you do very much farm animal work? I have been drifting towards the LA side of our practice more and more recently and have been doing vaccinations & blood sampling aswell as the heaps of DEFRA paperwork! Id be really interested to share knowledge/tips with you.

Regarding courses, I have been looking at general agricultural courses run by various colleges to get some background knowledge and practical experience of farming and livestock. The LA vets in my practice are very keen to teach me Farm veterinary/nursing stuff, but unfortunatley there seems to be no formal course or qualification designed for this. I guess there is not enough interest? There was mutterings from the RCVS a few years back i think? about whether there should be a Large animal VN qualification like the Equine side.

Where are you located?

CAW do various CPD courses such as:

The Backyard Hen - 23rd March 2 hour CPD £28

The Baa Essentials - 5th August 2 hour CPD £28

Flocking Successfully - 23rd Sept 2 hour CPD £28

These are all located at our Leeds centre.

I remember seeing a large animal nursing cpd day but cannot for the life of me remember where! I know this doesn't help much but there was one out there! It was a few months back so may have run already. May be worth contacting the main CPD providers to see if they have anything planned?

You could look at doing the SQP for farm animals.
