Obviously xrays are out of the questions but has anyone still been in theatre etc. I am the only nurse in my practice and I'm a bit concerned. Thanks

Re: Working whilst pregnant.

I am 33 weeks pregnant with my second baby. My first pregnancy I worked nights in an emergency clinic until I was about 34 weeks and did everything I normally would other than heavy lifting. This time I only work part time but have still been in theatre, still clean out litter trays and still do x-rays. To be honest the risks with litter trays are minimal as long as you use gloves and wash your hands afterwards I had a blood test done to check for toxo and to see if I had any antibodies to it and they showed that I do not and never have had it and in nearly 10 years of vet nursing I would say that's pretty good going. I have just not done any extreme heavy lifting really or struggling with stupid dogs.. I always have a seat with me in theatre.

Re: Working whilst pregnant.

Hey, I have a 10 month old. I didn't risk theatre x-rays or any cat trays.
I know I prob could of and yes it was dull but to me being bored for few months to know my baby would not be at risk was far more important.
I couldn't forgive myself if somthing did go wrong due to carelessness

Re: Working whilst pregnant.

Like Bengalcat has pointed out, there are hours worth of conversations on this topic, so have a read through. I think it comes down to individual choice. What are you and your partner happy with you doing and how would you each feel if there was a problem with baby later, would you feel happy and have piece of mind that you had taken every precaution? Obviously problems can occur to anyone in any profession and it's more getting clear in your own head what works for you, and what your boundaries are. Good luck! xx

Re: Working whilst pregnant.

Congrats!

I worked throughout my pregnancy right up to 30 weeks.

I was locuming for the PDSA at the time who were quite hot on H&S, so I didn't do any Xrays or Theatre.
I did however work in the isolation ward which I always through was a bit weird, but at least it meant the other nurses didn't mix with healthy patients.

No lifting/stretching either. I always had a seat too

Re: Working whilst pregnant.

If you use the search box, you will find loads of threads on this topic, there are loads of discusions on working while pregnant.
