Ensure there is a blue ring around the eye piece, as this indicates that it is safe to submerse the scope.

VES do some nice guides for cleaning protocol and might be worth investing in a scope clearer.

Re: Endoscope cleaning protocol

Thank you so much:) Thats a great help. Yeah going to contact the supplier as they dont have any cleaning procedures on it at all..

Thank you

Re: Endoscope cleaning protocol

hey, there all nearly the same, however you should get one from the manufacturer or supplier. I would always follow those guidelines, very expensive instruments to go wrong! ill copy ours in here anyway, just remember there slightly tailored to our set up

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION OF ENDOSCOPES

1. Leak test – attach pressure pump and inflate to 150mmHg.

IF LEAK TEST FAILS

(OR IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT) DO NOT IMMERSE

2. Check endoscope for broken fibres.

3. Immerse scope in 6 ltrs water + 60mls Medizyme, remove air/water and suction buttons.

4. Clean channels with brush:

· Biopsy channel to tip of scope

Water channel to light source end

Water channel to tip of scope

Entrance of air button channel

5. Connect to suction and flush Medizyme through scope. Alternately cover air & water channel /

biopsy ports while flushing.

6. Gently brush control body (espec. eyepiece) to dislodge dirt and grease. Brush tip of insertion

tube and lenses to dislodge any organic debris.

Drain off Medizyme and flush scope with clean water, covering channels in turn as before.

Transfer scope to plastic tray and immerse in disinfectant ( 400mls of MedDis made up to 8 litres with water).

Flush to fully irrigate all channels with disinfectant and leave for 20 - 30 mins. Flush scope thoroughly with clean water and then with air to dry off excess moisture.

Dry outside of scope with care – remember it’s possible to detach the insertion tube from the scope head if too much downward force is used!

Re-attach air & water buttons and hang up to dry.

¨ Always feed cleaning brush down from head end of scope.

¨ MedDis solution can be kept (4-5 days) and re-used.
