(Shock!)
I realllllly want to get a qualification. I am big fat 30, and want some letters after my name! (Used to be BSc PhD, pmsl, but don't do university!)
So I suddenly thought, ooh, why don't I do the ANA course. Don't

Re: ANA Course

Ooh thanks Charlotte!

Not got round to looking at your website yet, but glad that you do a course!

Re: ANA Course

You could also take a look at The College of Animal Welfare's VCA (Veterinary Care Assistant) programme. An alternatice to the ANA and 100% distance learning. You can either be volunteering or employed in practice. Mentor can be either VN or Vet.

Have a look - http://www.caw.ac.uk/vn/vnncvca.htm

For instance if you're doing you're hospitalisation case for a cat with renal disease, you would include basic systemic involvement (using your syllabus which gives pointers about what units should be considered for each case), basic nursing care/feeding and health and safety. Your casebook works towards your overall mark so thorough cases with relevent points are best.

The course covers A&P to a slightly lesser scale of the NVQ2, but in greater depth of exotics than the entire NVQ. You'd also study parasites, theatre practice/sterilisation, first aid....It's quite an indepth course really but you really feel you know more at the end.

Re: ANA Course

How does it work then? Is it as pedantic as the caselogs for the VN course? I.e. it has to explain everything you do in minute detail, and why you are doing it?

Re: ANA Course

Worth thinking about if you do decide to stay on in practice. Less stress too as you don't have to worry about unenthusiastic assessors!!
Are you not doing the NVQ anymore Katy? Sorry things went a bit pear shaped

The ANA is a really good option though and all you need as a mentor is a QVN or Vet (this is so you have someone to mark your casebook-this is a lot smaller/straightforward than the NVQ portfolio!) I did the ANA and now mentor a student for the course and I would always recommend it to anyone.

Nope. Try not to think about that stress! Lol!

ANA course sounds interesting. Might just have to wait to September, and not 100% sure if I want to continue in practice. It's all a bit up in the air at the mo! Defo something i'm interested in though, and it might give me a goal.

Re: ANA Course

ahh there you go you can use a vet!

Would a vet work? The vet I would choose is going off sick at the end of the year for a few months too.
