He has severe hypertension, non responsive to istin/fortekor combo. 3 months ago his bp was around 280, it is now consistantly over 340, even at home when he seems relaxed. I do hope all worked out well in the end

Were you able to find the cause of the increasing BP?

Re: Hypertensive dog

Ah, I was told by GUVS they would ultrasound for phaeo, no-one suggested thrombi elsewhere maybe causing the prob. I just cant think logically at all about my own dog, so thank you for helping me. He has now developed haemmoragic dia. My vet says she will contact a cardio that she knows, hopefully they will come back with something too. Will have a chat with her about a good abdominal ultrasound/cushings. Just feel Im closer to losing him everyday, very bad.

Again, thank you so much

Re: Hypertensive dog

I'd suggest an ACTH stim, I think cusings is more likely to cause hypertension than addisons from the reading I have just done.

I was suggesting abdo u/sound to actually check the kidneys in detail, as even though seem normal on bloods they could be having an effect and have a look at the adrenals. they can also check for other thrombi elsewhere.

We tend to do CT for phaeo's as it is more sensitive for something like that I am led to believe.

Has your vet spoken to anyone for some advice, (I would recommend them ringing one of the medical referral centres they haven't already and pick one of the internal medics or cardiologists brains)

Re: Hypertensive dog

We discovered he had a blood clot in ventricle of his brain. Bp was then checked. All routine bloods been done, GGT/ALKP high end of normal but all else fine. (he on pheno for long term epilepsy) No other signs of addisons but was considering checking anyway. Went through full cardiology work up also.

Was suggested to check abdominal ultrasound for phaeochromocytoma (is this what you were thinking?) but experts tell me that its usually impossible to find until post mortem, and they would only treat him as we are anyway, as he wouldnt survive anaesthetic with his bp so high.

Re: Hypertensive dog

Calcium fine.
