Hey all,

why the hell did they not check for a heart beat before putting her in a freezer!!! poor thing.. imagine waking up in a plastic bag - in a freezer!!!!

Re: Im speechless!!
Gassing animals to death also seems so ...... I don't know ...... antiquated? I guess. Why can't they just use the injection?
I know of a shelter abroad (not the one I'm involved with I might add) who still use gas as it's cheaper apparently. I believe they'd rather use their limited funds for those who have a chance of rehoming/survival but it's not something I'd like to witness regularly.

Having worked in a large rehoming shelter, it does sometimes become necessary to make unpleasant decisions, no matter how well you try and manage incomings and outgoings, as there will always be people who can't or won't wait until you have space. It does make you angry but you do have to be realistic and not hog kennels with one long termer who you have no chance of ever finding a home for when there could be three or four who would come through that kennel and get adopted pretty quickly.

It's a horrible job and I think the anger should be aimed at those who put the shelters in this position rather than the people working in the shelters, who are at least doing what they can and doing their bit, unlike many others who are quick to criticise from the outside.

By the way, I've just re-read my post and the last sentence wasn't aimed at anyone here - the quote was just relevant to the first sentence and I meant the general public, not you guys. Just clearing that up before anyone takes offence!!!

Re: Im speechless!!

Yes I hate it when you get people who only want to adopt the 'special cases' - and this used to happen with children too. Its like they are saying - look at me everybody, look at me and how good I am taking on an animal with problems. (and as an aside it might get me a mention in the media).

I also dont like the shelters that hang on to the 'special' ones as long as they possibly can sometimes turning down really good homes for a few more minutes of fame ( or a fresh appeal for funds to pay for meds/ treatment which can be a huge fundraiser if done well but if taken too far ultimately can result in an animal not being homed - and yes I have seen this happen). There are thousands upon thousands of healthy animals euthanased every year but maybe the ones without problems dont bring the same degree of kudos

Re: Im speechless!!

Why would someone put an animal in the freezer without checking it was dead? That's one paranoia of mine, I'm constantly checking and rechecking. If I think I can hear any little noise, I grab someone else to check for me.

That last story annoys me. It always annoys me when people suddenly only want to rehome a certain animals because it was in the paper. Go down the rescue centre and pick out one of the other hundreds that need homes, instead of everyone fighting over one animal.

Re: Im speechless!!

i read this the other day... but why do all these people rush to adopt it when they dont care at any other time tyo adopt an animal....
