speaking as someone who has recently had a lot of stress to find a room somewhere, gumtree was always better than spare room/easy room mate- you shouldn't have to pay to contact someone who has an ad you are interested in.

I didn't find the room I have on either of those in the end but on an accommodation notice board specific to cambridge

Easyroommate.com (or co.uk) cant remember. Or Gumtree. I used these sites when looking for my place!

Ask friends to ask friends to see if any one is looking.

I've never had a lodger myself, but a friend who has had them has always had a lot of sucess with spareroom.co.uk
