generally senna comes everywhere with me but if im away shopping for the day, its about 6hours although she has a long walk b4 and after.

Once we got held up by bad traffic and she was home alone 8hours, I felt so guilty but she was fine and I worked out that its no longer than being left over night in the kitchen if I have a lie in!

There are codes of practice for animal welfare that support the Animal Welfare Act from DEFRA http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-pets/pets/cruelty/ scroll down and have a look under key legislation. I don't think it specifies a time though.

Its just that a Client asked me if i knew if the RSPCA had any guidelines on how long a dog can be left alone legally. Im not sure whether she was asking for information for herself or if she had problems with a neighbours dog that was being left as it was kind of vague! cheers.

The max i'll leave Jack is 6 hours. Doesn't happen very often at all though, my parents are retired so always at home with him. If they're going out all day i'll take him to work/get dog walker to come and visit.

I was talking about this the other with someone at work...

When I am at work - I will go home at lunchtime everyday (unless BF is home) to get the dogs out - so they aren't really left longer than 3-4 hours.

But on days off work, if I go out to visit mates etc... I leave them for 5+ hours!

The longest I've ever left them is 6 and a half hours! But that was because of a mix up with BF - I thought he would be home, he thought I would be home!

I wouldn't want to leave them much longer than 5 hours... I guess it would depend on the dog too... how long are they happy to be left!
