Do you need qualifications and if so which ones? I've been thinking about what to do next. It's between medical nursing diploma and I also fancy teaching..

Re: Lecturing vet nursing

I started as a Lecturer nearly a year ago. I don't have any teaching qualifications but the College pays for staff to do either the Cert Ed (if you don't have a degree) or PGCE (if you do have a degree). The College also funded my Clinical Coach training. I applied for my position after seeing it advertised in the VN Times.

I only had the VN qualification and lots of years in practice experience but am currently studying for the Cert Ed (funded by college, I don't have a degree). Colleges will like you to have some experience in a teaching form such as clinical coach/A1 course but this isn't always essential but you do need to to work towards a teaching qualification within around 2 years of starting a position. Otherwise experience is invaluable! My college is keen for teaching staff to continue CPD so there is still the opportunity to work towards areas of interest especially if they are subjects you will be teaching.

Massive learning curve and lots of work both at college and at home with lesson planning / marking etc but its great!

Re: Lecturing vet nursing

Theres lots of different ways such as doing a PGCE, or The RVC does a great online PgCert/MA in Veterinary Education for example x
