hi Sarah, no I am not responsible for her training. oh, and she is blonde but I think thats by choice as opposed to being born that way!!

thats another thing that upsets me too - the fact that she is doing what I done years ago yet she doesnt feel the need to ask me for any help or advice and I have offered many times but she prefers to go to the boss (one of them) who is also an assessor
to be quite honest i am really annoyed about this, ive probly said it before but with trainee positions so scare its an outrage that shes acting like this, she just sounds like a t*rt, i dont know what to suggest but please keep us updated about what happens because id love to know when she gets put in her place!!

Re: Help Please

is there anyone u can speak to at your practice? how are things going?

Re: Help Please

personally I would find her a very important job to do - one that takes her right away from her friendly vet. how about giving her sole responsibility of say dispensary and ordering (with permission of boss of course) , should be enough to keep her on her toes and then if things do go belly up in that area it will be down to her. She could of course surprise you and be bloody good at it . The point is if she is taking responsibility (and I mean full responsibility) she prob wont have time to hang around or flirt you are taking her right outside the comfort zone.

When I was a head nurse I had this cocky little madam who , because she had done 2 weeks on an ANA course thought she knew it all. Work was becoming impossible mainly because of her attitude (and maybe mine as well) , she had a favourite vet and always but always swapped round with other staff one way or another so she could be with favourite vet. She complained to him about me and he in turn complained to me about how unhappy this person was and how unfair I was being not letting her do more.... Just how do you say to a first year trainee and a second year almost qualified ' sorry we have an ANA who thinks it is unfair she cannot be in theatre all day and I have to cut a theatre day off both of you so the ANA can have 3 days?'

To cut a long story short in the finish I ended up saying ' well if I am as hopeless at this job as you seem to think you do it !' - so for two whole days she did my job, ordering, seeing reps, routine paperwork (darent let her loose with insurance forms) cleaning, sorting out freezer, paying bills, more cleaning , cash up, accounts, telephone calls etc etc . After 2 days the boss had enough and she was brought back into line - but the important thing was I didnt directly bring her back into line , the boss did.

We did find from this experience that there was one area she really really liked and did well - the dispensary. So when big bad boss had finished yelling at her I went in as the nice guy and said she had done a really good job in dispensary and did she want to be in charge of the whole of that area. I never had a problem with her again. I used to find time to talk to her about new drugs etc and used to encourage her to tell me about new stuff she had read about in the trade papers. She ran the dispensary very efficiently in fact it all worked out very well - could something similar work for you ?

Re: Help Please

Hi misssadvetnurse.

Personally I would be taking her to task on her own, and them pointing out to him that it's not on, if they want to "blow kisses" over the ops table then do it on their own time, I would point out to him and her that it has been noted by a senior vet... you dont have to name names, but point it out anyway.... it sounds to me like they are getting away with it, so continue to do it, so until they are called on it they will continue to do it.......... time to call them on it.

I know this can be hard, so to overcome this, try to imagine what would be worse than that situation, then ask yourself it will matter in a week, 1 month, 6 months ,a year... and if the answer is no to any of the above just go for it.

Time to pull rank.... just go for it, believe me you will feel better, and gain more respect not only from the senior vets, but from "adam and eve" ..... eventually..

Re: Help Please

I wasnt on ops today, it was a very busy day with ops though I wasnt asked for help. I spent the day tidying up after weekend, stocking up drugs and doing the supply order as well as helping on reception. I went in to the x-ray room to put something in cupboard and vet asked if I could monitor cat under anaesthetic till said nurse came back from developing x-ray. Said nurse came back, I asked her if she could take over anaesthetic, (vet in same room doing other stuff) she looked to vet for 'help', never even acknowledged what I had said to her and vet said, 'yes, take her through for x-ray'!!!!!

When it is just the 2 of us working, its great and we get the work done pronto and loads of patient care etc, though when she is there, there is too much laughing and giggiling and her hanging on to his every word, leaning over the table chatting to him while he is operating (2 bosses, senior boss (not assessor) has commented on this) Then come the end of the operating day, loads of instruments still left to be sterilised which could have been done while she was leant over table assing about

Re: Help Please

If he is not the principle vet l would have a word with the boss.
If whatever you ask is fair... if you ask her to say clean comething up because you are busy but normally you would clean it up then she is in need of a talking to.

Hi,

I am a vetnurse member under a different name but I want to place this post anonomously so please do give me advice.

The practice where I work, there is me, the vet and another trainee. It used to be a different vet, me and 2 other nurses though this has changed in the past 6 months.

I used to be very happy here but this past while, this has changed.

I have started to feel that I am not welcome in the practice anymore. This is due to a lot of reasons. The 'new' vet and student are both single so enjoy 'flirting' with each other. We have our seperate days when I am in on ops and she is in the office and vice versa. The 2 of them seem to get on really well together and when I am in the room, I feel most unwelcome as I go in to say hello, but their conversation carries on as if I am invisible.

She is very much my junior but if I ever ask her to do anything, she looks (first of all) at the vet then at me as if I have 2 heads. I feel I have no respect in the workplace anymore and it is really starting to get me down. I feel she is very much 'too big for her boots'.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
i do hope this flirty trainee isnt blond as it is usually the case and is disrespectful to the hair colour (i am blond but i dont act this way, but usually get tarred with the same stereotype brush) =( can i ask are you training her? if so surely you should have some authority to tell to do something instead of standing around flirting, its irritating really as trainee positions are like gold dust and this trainee seems to be wasting her time kissing a*se instead of learning like the rest of us unemployed trainees would

Re: Help Please

sorry splitting my time between forum and a chat room - Hollywood hypnotists are CRAZY people, most of them sound like they are in need of therapy themselves
