I had trochanteric bursitis following a hip # - I can tell you it is extremely painful. The one thing that really helped me was cortisone injections directly into the joint and the bursa. If it is bursitis and you can get decent management it may not bother you too much apart from the odd flare up. I was also tested for Lupus as apparently this can present in a similar way

Thanks you guy's you given me loads of support! As for cortisone injections it helps mum ten folds. Going to suggest that to the doctor next time I'm there and see what they say.

Sometimes they can help manage pain and stress, this would give you a little time to yourself to think as well. I know depression can take a major toll on your relationship. I've been dealing with depression from medical problems myself. If you ever want to talk and swap stories feel free to private message me. I would rather not go into detail on the forum with my problems. :( But one thing I have found really helpful is speaking to a therapist and having that extra support so i'm not putting some much on my partner. I've also started taking some 5htp supplements to help me get better rest.

Re: Feeling really down....

I had trochanteric bursitis following a hip # - I can tell you it is extremely painful.
Used a deep heat rub last night and that was amazing I could actually wear heels out and sit comfortably whilst out for dinner.

And haven't had any specialist tests done, just the basics, we're thinking it could be buritis (not sure on the spelling) which is an infection in the joint fluid (mum suffers from it). Just need to go through all the channels to find out I guess.

Hi really sorry to hear you ar feeling down about your job.

The hip thing, get a test done to check you are not anaemic... a friend of mine had painful hips for months, and like you tried everything, including glucosamine etc, but to no avail, eventually she was sent for tests to the hospital and nothing showed up,,eventually they took a simple test and she was lacking in Iron so they put her on a course of Iron tabs and she now has no pain..... apparently it is one of a lot of symptoms relating to lack of Iron, so worth a check at least.

[/quote]

I've been having tests and every thing comes back as normal every time, might go get a done on Wednesday to cheer myself up

Re: Feeling really down....

Thanks you guys, as for the hips I have been taking glucosamine supplements, yet to try cod liver oil. But nothing seems to be helping.

Speaking to my assessor is pointless as he is also my boss who has admitted that he has lost interest in the practice . I have been keeping every one up to speed with my health issues (as was admitted to a&e last year with severe chest pains but down to stress and anxiety) and nothing has been done to help me.

I have spoken to college and my tutor (also my IV) has spoken to my boss/assessor and he has been limited to one student only (me) and nothing has improved or even changed full stop :(

Just don't know if I can physically do it any more.

Emma

I'm a qualified nurse now but I went through a very tough time as a student nurse - having no assessor at all! I had to sort my own portfolio out myself and send it off to my college to be assessed and checked. I ended up doing lots of wittness statements to prove competence which I had to write myself.I also worked in a busy understaffed practice.

I became very ill, starting loosing my hair and fainting. Doctor put it down to stress and anaemia and wanted to sign me off for two weeks which I couldn't do because we were understaffed.

Since qualifying I became an assessor with the view to making sure student nurses get better help and support. I know how hard it can be.

I suggest talking to your assessor and your boss about your concerns and fears. Also about your painful hips. See if they can put anything in place to help you. Also talk to your college.

There are now helplines available for our profession to talk to someone, although I've forgotten the name of it - look on the RCVS website I'm sure it'll be on there. They'll be able to give you support and guidance.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Remember to leave work at work, concentrate on finding a balance between life and working. Do not give up, once you are qualified it gets much easier.

Hope this helps,

Jody

Re: Feeling really down....

Hi Emma

Dont give up yet. I know it seems all hard work and doom and gloom but it will be worth it. I had surgery on my knee smack in the middle of my level 3 which put me back 6 months. I wasnt enjoying my practice so moved and ended up somewhere worse!!!!. I finally found somewhere brilliant but it put more stress on my exams etc. It may be worth staying put for now. I know its difficult.

As far as your hips are concerened do you take glucosamine and cod liver oil supplements. They may help and also take pain killers (anti-inflammatrories) regularly so the theraputic effects stay topped up.

Keep strong it will be worth it and once qualified you will be able to move anywhere.
