i was at a local BVNA meeting last night and was asked to post this on here. If more nurses can read and respond even if it just to say you agree with all points, that would be great.

They have said they will take opinions posted on this group if people have already read and remember what they thought to save you having to read it again- Helpful RCVS!

Re: VN code to professional conduct - deadline Friday 21st October
veterinary nurses must take steps to provide emergency first aid and pain relief according to their skills ans specific situation;subject to legal restraints
Also, if they must remain within legal restraints, they can't give POM pain relief. I don't know of any pain relief that is not POM that I would be happy administering, so whats the point in putting that?

I will take a look at it. If its not too long-winded!

Re: VN code to professional conduct - deadline Friday 21st October

I've never seen the link before or info on it.
I thought the same before that was no point saying anything but i honeslty believe they want to change and want people to respond to them. the problem is that if we have the opinion they don't listen and they have the opinion we don;t care nothing will change. Why not copy and paste what you have spent time writing here and reply to the post. you may be pleasanlty surprised at the reaction you get.

Re: VN code to professional conduct - deadline Friday 21st October

'woefully small number of replies' - maybe that is because many of us have already worked out that no matter what we say it wont make one jot of difference! It isnt that people dont care. I have taken the time to read through it when it first came out. it doesnt make easy reading. There are points in there that are going to cause conflict. heres just one of them where a practice doesnt feel the need to involve animal welfare agency on a case and a nurse may in their opinion through this draft feel compelled to involve an animal welfare agency. What happens then? What happens if the nurse then goes against their practice wishes? what happens if the nurses opinion is at variance to the practice opinion and subsequently the nurses opinion is found to be the wrong one? How will that engender any confidence in the veterinary nursing profession with the general public? and how long will that nurse survive in ANY practice when the news gets around.

heres another - veterinary nurses and animals 3

veterinary nurses must take steps to provide emergency first aid and pain relief according to their skills ans specific situation;subject to legal restraints - again I can see conflicts if a nurse feels that an animal needs pain relief but for whatever reason the veterinary surgeon does not.
