Im having the same problem and what i am doing is doing locum work in the hope of some day a position as a SVN. Failing that i will be looking at doing the Level 3 VN Diploma. Doing locum work is quite satisfying but not many practices are in need of VCA's as they are for RVN. Only advice really is good things come to those who wait. Keep sending out cvs every 6 months and be persistant.

try asking for voluntary work, work experience, saturday helper anything like that! thats how i found a job and keep blasting the cv out.

Middlesex only do top up to degree for already qualified VN's. Im currently 3rd year Bsc VN at Middlesex x

I might be wrong but I think Middx uni do a VN course for grads. Just a thought, but you may find it easier to get a job once you're qualified, as there's not a lot of SVN positions out there. That's one of the reasons I'm doing a VN degree and not looking for a student job.

thanks for your kind replies.

I can absolutley appreciate that, I have heard that this is the case, and as I have been through it all myself, looking for three years now, it gets a little de motivating. But It's the same for everybody.

I will keep looking and keep sending out c.v's and hope i come across something suitable in the mean time.

I had the same problem, I did a BSc in Animal Science, Care and Management and still couldn't find anywhere. They wanted experience instead of academic qualifications. I was lucky enough to get a place volunteering for the PDSA which after 9 months led to a position as an ACA. So although i'm not during VN training, i'm getting to gain a lot of experience, which i'm hoping will help when I eventually go for a training position

I also did a degree in animal behaviour and welfare and found it equally as hard when I graduated. Sent out hundreds of CV to practices all over and just felt hopeless. You will find something though so keep going as you are!!! I found best thing was to go on google and look at all vets I would like to work for and then put a cross on area map of where they were. They I had a day to drive round to each place and hand my CV and letter in personally. I would also ask if the head nurse or practice manager happened to be free for a quick chat. ( though you cant expect this always to happen as they will be very busy). Have you tried the jobs section on here?Much better than the awful job centre site!!
