According to the RCVS 2010 Survey of the Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing Professions, the average basic annual salary (exc unsocial hours, benefits and overtime) of a VN working full-time in clincial practice was £16,378 - so you are pretty much there, Selena.

Some people were topping out at £50-55K - but that would be the exception.

but it gives the wring impression, you could earn that maybe working in london at a top referral clinic,with lots of further qualifications, but its very rare!. Average about 15k i would have thought.

Just saw this - you're quite right that cat castrations are not Schedule 3 tasks! They are specifically excluded by the 1966 Veterinary Surgeons Act. You can download the Act at www.rcvs.org.uk/document-library/veterinary-surgeons-act-1966 - have a look at pages 58 and 59.

Where was this article Finnigan, we'd be interested to see it!

not anymore as they class it as entring a body cavity due to the spermatic cord going back into the abdo.
