Im trying (And failing!) to find literature on the human-companion animal bond. I have an assignment due where i need to explain the concept and how it impacts on the nursing care of patients.
Does anyone know of any studies/papers/books

Re: Human- Companion Animal bond

Thanks everyone!!
I have a book that is pretty fascinating, it's nothing to do with nursing specifically but it definitely is deep on the subject of the bond a pet and its human owner shares.

Anthozoos journal might be your best bet or the animals in society if your college/uni subscribes to these. Check out the ISAZ website. A nurse presented research at their annual conference this year which looked at the effects of owner vistation on the heart rate, pain scores, etc of intensive care patients.
