With both my preganancies I was on call upto taking my maternity leave, we dont stay at the practise and are called out by the vet if they need us (so a slightly different situation). It does seem as tho you are being discriminated against especially given the pregnant vet is still doing on calls and I would agree with earlier posts and say get some advice. Congratulations

I should have said that taking you off the OOH rota was generous and a kind thing to do - I don't think many people look forward to doing OOH when pregnant and if I could have not done it I would have been happy. (No chance on a 1 in 4 rota though.) But if your employer feels you are unable to carry out your tasks they can change your workload and rota but CANNOT reduce your wage because of it.

One of our nurses is 5 months pregnant and is still doing ooh and on call rota and plans to do this right up to feb, no reduction in wages and she is on 2nd baby!!! boss is fine about it all.

When we are on call we are alone and only call the vet if they are needed. It is a health and safety issue and in response to your question yes there is a pregnant vet at my practice also. She will carry on oncall no wage reduction. The argument for her is that she isn't on her own working in the surgery ad she's not required to stay on site.

This is illegal. It is sexual discrimination and is, in effect, punishing you for being pregnant. If you want to be nice, discuss this with your boss and tell them it is illegal, getting them to change their mind. If you're not feeling so nice, get your 'new' contract/wages in writing with the reason for the change, then resign, sue them for constructive dismissal and/or sexual discrimination and take the pay-out - there is no limit to a tribunal claim if the reason is sexual discrimination.

It's probably a health and safety reason that they've taken you off OOH. I assume like me when it's OOH you're on your own with a Vet. Well knowing that you cannot do heavy lifting, you need reduced exposure to anaesthetic gases, and exposure to x-rays they've probably decided they cannot have you on your own. Its also not fair to Vet on duty to have to take the burden.

If your paid to do OOH aqnd they are reducing because of you not doing it that makes sence, however I'd be interested to know if your Vets have ever had the OOH stopped and a reduction in wages as that would be discrimination. Also your supposed to have a discussion about what you can and can't do and a health and safety assessment done between you and employer.

If you're MBVNA speak to the legal team.

Pretty sure that reducing your wage due to pregnancy is sexual discrimination, and very naughty!!! BVNA provide legal advise for members, definatly worth pursuing. All the best and congrats x

Our salary includes our OOH work.. so don't know where they got £0.50 an hour from??! am gonna seek legal advice i think.

I was taken off the on-call rota which I think is understandable but why do they think they can reduce your hourly rate??? Would def seek advice about that. Congratulations by the way! x

At the practice I worked at we still worked the rota until fairly close to the end of our pregnancy. I guess it's up to the practice whether they want you to come off of the rota or not however legally I don't think they are allowed to stop your money. I would seek some legal advise about this. Just need to add my oncall rota was only one weekend in 12 weekends! fri and sat night only. no week day!
