Perfect bought kindle this am now quote for my soffits this pm. they urgently need doing and also mums house needs urgent repair as the POA hasnt gone through yet takes up to 9 weeks means l have to pay for both & if not through by then the first mth of her care home when she gets out hospital assuming all goes to plan. bang goes my savings :-(( l do have a strangle hold on the bad no sh itty luck club

If you get an iPad, you can download a Kindle app (for free) and there are loads of other ereaders like iBooks, Overdrive...the list goes on. I am nearly surgically attached to the iPad, as I use it for college lectures, email, Skype, etc. I also got the BSAVA drug formulary and procedures guide on it. My library also allows me to download books (for free!) in the same way you'd normally get physical books- ie, you get them for 2 weeks, and then they're automatically returned, so no late fees either. For me, it was a no brainer to choose the iPad over a straight eReader, but I know not everyone needs something that varied. Happy shopping!!

Ok l had enough built up in petrol money to be able to blow it. I have just got the kindle 3g with light cover for £188 from staples normal price was 210 l have been looking long enough now l am committed. Mind you l should be thats a hell of a lot of books l could have bought for that amount. Main problem is l am running out of space on my shelves. And having a really bad time with mum & life at the moment so this is my cheer me up & christmas present in one.

I want!!! I love books, but a Kindle would be fabby for night duties...... Sorry to be a thicko, but does an iPad have the same app then? I need a new comp, and want a kindle.... so maybe that would be better? Or a laptop and kindle? Oh cripes, i dont know!!!!!!

i love mine and thought i would be a traitor to real books, but i have read so much more since having mine. Also amazon do the trick of 'people who bought this also bought....' so i have read a great variety of different genres too.

yes you can fall asleep with a kindle, its just that it wakes you up as it knocks you on the forehead

also i actually licked my finger to turn the page too doh!!

I've got to agree, there is something about actually having a physical copy of a book that I don't think a Kindle could ever provide. They seem like a good idea, but I couldn't have one, even though it would mean a lot less space taken up by books..

Yeah you can't exactly roam around a book store or charity shop looking for a bargain book - just not the same! Plus when your in bed curled up with a book - you hardly fall asleep with a kindle!

I looked into getting one but I just can't do it! I really think I would miss a "real" book!

I have read around in our and 1000s posts on several forums on kindle and l would say yes it is esp if they travel. Everyone l have read who got the non wishes they got the 3g.

My dad is going to get my mum a Kindle for Christmas, does anyone have any opinions on whether the 3G keyboard one is worth the extra money?

Thanks mrs Dot Dot but the law is a one year guarantee. l was wondering how good it was some places you have a right royal tussle with sellers over things but amazon has a really good rep, l was wondering how good the sub-sellers are at dealing with it. Ithink at end of the day when l get one will go direct to amazon but will see nearer the time as l have some big expenses coming up so will be a time yet before l treat myself

My query is l see lots of other places like comet, staples etc are now selling kindle has any one bought from an outsourcer and had a problem how was amazon on the back up did you go via them or the outsourcer back up?

I would rather buy from a shop but wary of back up l hear amazon is brilliant but depends how the back up is if not bought direct from them.

It's mega easy to d/l!

Each kindle is set up to an amazon account - you can set it up after buying the kindle.

Basically once in place, you can use the amazon one click ordering service to d/l.

So if you set it all up for your Ma, she can d/l in a click, and the ebook will be there in seconds! If you have any problems their customer service is amazing! My kindle stopped charging up - phoned them - had a brand new kindle within 48hrs with a freepost delivery for the broken one! Plus it linked all my books so they were on the new kindle with a couple of clicks!

Can't recommend them highly enough!

LOVE mine! It is paying for itself. Instead of reading a paper everyday I download it to the kindle. Cost: £10per month instead of closer to £25/month!!!

UPDATE......... Re Caros post........ I went and got one yesterday in town while looking for a present for somone else!!!!! Wasn't planned, or really affordable (visa card....) but thought could be an early (very!) christmas pressie to myself.......................... Loving it!

My other half and his parents all have a kindle. I have an ipad 2 so use iBooks. Both are really good to read on. We got rid of a lot of our books when we got these. The only thing I Hate on both is that the ebooks are usually more expensive. Otherwise i find it a lot more comfortable reading on them and do recommend them!

i have a kindle, makes reading easier for my dyslexia because i can adjust the font size and space the lines out, and change the writing size. never read so quickly. wish it had a light with it but it really clear under my lamp at night , not the end of the world :)
