i wanted to no what everyone else does? maybe depends on the severity of the condition or surgery?

More recent thinking is that feeding earlier is better, as (very basically) digestive system needs food to stay healthy :)

Re: protocol for eating patients after enterectomy

When my mum had her bowel cancer op they refused food till she far-ted despite the fact she was hungry and it took several days. And l go by vet, certainly we feed a heck of a lot sooner than humans feed in hospitals l know that

Re: protocol for eating patients after enterectomy

I agree with Nick (cause he's awesome)... kinda depends on the vets plan of nursing care for the patient in recovery... at my place all the vets have their own opinions on whether they get fed asap to aid gut motility and get it back to normal... or if they give the gut some time off and wait 24 hours...

In my experience there's no right or wrong answer... regardless of when they have been fed they have done well (and those that haven't we never expected them too anyways)...

I think it's the protocol for pancreatitis... back when I trained feeding was a huge no no... but some of the "newer" vets want them eating asap... nursing care plans change all the time!

Re: protocol for eating patients after enterectomy

[quote user="xhappysvn21x"]
