I started a new job this week but am really not happy. The standards of care & way in which things are done are not to my usual standards & I am really struggling to cope. I have been told that I will have great difficulty

Re: Probationary period

is there no way you could give it just a little longer ?- less than a week is a very short time in which to form a true opinion of a workplace. Have you thought about what you will do to support yourself until another job comes along? If you can stick it out you may find that things are not as bad as you first thought or if they are at least you will have an income while you look around elsewhere. Jobs are so hard to come by at the moment (any job)

Re: Probationary period

Thanks everyone! Letter is written & I will take it in on Friday.
I would keep your resignation letter brief and simple. This is what I wrote in my recent resignation letter:

"Dear _____,
Please accept this as formal notice of my resignation from the position of ___________.
In accordance with my contract of employment I am happy to work until the ___________.
While I believe that I am leaving for good reasons, I am sorry to leave, and I thank you for your support during my time at _________.
Yours sincerely"

I arranged a meeting with my boss, discussed my reasons for wanting to leave and handed over the letter at the end of the meeting.

Good luck x[

Re: Probationary period

Hi

You are entitled to be paid for any work you have done. The only exception is that if you dont give the required notice, the employer could withold the equivalent times pay - e.g. if you dont give a week, they withold a weeks pay.

In terms of the resignation letter, give notice verbally then in the letter make reference to the conversation and that your finish date will be XX / XX / XXXX.

I just really can't afford to work for free and don't want to work where patient care is not the top priority!

One of the main problems is that there is no practice manager or HVN!!!!!! There are 2 vets, 1 of which is a locum, the other owns the practice. There is, besides me, 1 other RVN & 1 trainee. Should have rung alarm bells before I started really

Re: Probationary period

Would it be worth while speaking to the practice manager or head nurse... and see what the likelihood of them listening to your requests might be?

Would save them loosing a nurse - who obviously wants the best... and would save you having to find somewhere else... at least for a few weeks anyways...

Re: Probationary period

Yes, you will be entitled to be paid for any work you have completed. It's an implied term in any contract of employment (meaning that it doesn't have to be actually written in the contract as it's a legal right). Acas will be able to confirm this and will be able to help if your employer does give you any grief!

Re: Probationary period

Hi there,

It would probably be worth you contacting ACAS, they should be able to provide you with some guidance as to whether you are entiled to payment for work completed.
