i must say though sal, your old uniform sounds delighful, i am serious, not sarcastic.

Re: Nursing 'uniform'

well I suppose its down to personal preference - but as long as the practice are happy with whatever who cares? - dont know what some of you would have thought of one of my first uniforms if you think a simple dress is impractical?

Green and white striped 'pacer' with buttons (yes buttons!) all the way down the front. White (and clean) pin on apron to be worn at all times (which did a good job of covering up any gaps from missing buttons which pinged off on an almost daily basis. Petersham belt (also to be worn at all times) white (and clean) sleeve puffs and to top it all a white nurses cap. Black tights were worn all year round with polished black lace up nurses shoes. In cold weather it was permitted to wear a green nurses cardigan but that was it. So what I am wearing now regards uniform would by those standards be very relaxed to the point of being slovenly!

Re: Nursing 'uniform'

My first practice on qualifying insisted I wore a dress, I was handed this much too short number and when I went to lift a lab onto the table for induction I lifted the whole front of my dress! Maybe it's just me (!) but I seem to spend a lot of my day on the floor or in awkward positions etc so I definately feel more secure in trousers and a tunic.

Re: Nursing 'uniform'

At my old practice I had trousers/tunics and dresses.
The other thing is that the striped green uniform is for Student nurses that are registered with the RCVS as students and the green uniform is for qualified veterinary nurses (Listed or registered). I know that it's not stricked or inforced but some employers may choose to put you in a different uniform altogether if you are working as a receptionist or an animal care assistant.

Good luck on the job hunting.

Re: Nursing 'uniform'

i cant afford to invest in a dress/tunic until i get the job so i wont be rushing ahead buying any, it was simply curiosity. at 22 i get called old fashioned for not liking trousers, but its just what i find comfortable.
