well i've fallen at the first hurdle. im doing my clinical coach training as part of the warwickshire college group. i have been given a questionnaire to fill in. has anyone done it and can anyone help me.

questions:

what may cause standardisation problems between practices with the npl and demonstration? (What!!) I would say this would be if the practice does not have the equipment to perform demonstrations on, ie endoscope, ultrasound, powered equipment, etc... Also making sure that the demonstrations given fall in line with the current OSCE's, (see RCVS website for the updated versions). An example would be performing a blood smear, as OSCE requests you use a haemocrit tube to place drop of blood onto slide, (most of us here use a syringe or pipette).

describe the technique for supportive feedback? This is a vague one, as I have found it depends on my student (currently have 3). Tutorials are great for establishing plans and goals to achive , but opportunity for the student to recieve guidence if they are not performing well. I also provide feedbak on the spot if we are doing demonstrations, etc... You can also use written feedback. Plus involving your whole practice to give the student advice as they they go along, (aslong as you monitor that it is given in a correct manner).

i just dont have a clue. half the questions iv had to read around online as they are not in the booklet provided, oh i could cry!

please help anyone!

Hi,

I don't if that helps you at all? Most of the answers to these questions are all about communication and methods really. I always find them a bit vague, but alsong as you discuss supporting/directing your student and have evidence that you are doing this, (description box on NPL and tutorials), you will be fine.

I enjoy it, as I have great students who are so keen to learn so it's quite easy for me really. Good luck]

Apparently we will have to go to a "standardisation" meeting, the pershore one is on 19th October I think but I am on a weeks holiday then so won't be going - Angela Porter at Pershore said there is another one at the Warwick college but they don't know yet when that one will be - maybe we could both do that one and meet up.

Let me know the best way to send the article and I'll sort it over the next couple of days for you.

Re: help with clinical coach training

hi philippa, would you be able to send this to me, im not a bvna member so have no log in and didnt see the article, i am to doing this through pershore college as i work in worcester. what practice are you at?

Re: help with clinical coach training

[quote user="Philippa Clarke"]
