I am glad some of you are using the new online payment facility. I just wanted to say something about the credit card fee.

I appreciate it’s always annoying to see an extra fee – I feel the same when I am buying something online and an additional fee is added on.

Some retailers or organisations absorb the credit card fees which they are charged into the price of the goods and services they offer: as a customer you still end up paying, but it’s less obvious!

We can’t do this because the fee needs to be the same for all VNs/RVNs regardless of how they pay. So it’s more transparent for the online payment fee to be extra.

You could argue that the College ought to pay the credit card fees, but this would end up meaning that all nurses take the hit in the long term, which is not fair.

I hope this extra small fee won’t put you off taking advantage of renewing your registration online. This is the first time we have offered VNs the opportunity to pay by credit card in any form and so far 110 people have done it… hopefully some more will try it.

Also, for the person who couldn’t find where to pay online, head to the ‘login’ area or click on the ‘renew my registration’ link under the quick links for veterinary nurses on the home page.

Aimee they say they take the fee so somewhere along the line you will have the money out if you sure they havent in a couple of months let us know 2 months should allow their office to organise

thats ridiculous!!! i don't know, mine was free so no problem there. Honestly the RCVS never ceases to amaze me!

They've spelt my middle name wrong, have given up correcting it on various forms so it can stay wrong! It was correct on my qualifying certificate tho?!

RCVS only register once annually - irrespective of when we qualified or originally registered. As Vicky says tho, our original (1st) registration fee covers us to 2012. All I had to do was state my details were correct (did it on-line) and agree to the principles. No payment made. As I was expecting to pay, bonus...bought some shoes instead! Wheeeeeeee!

Got mine today. Pleased to find out that as I only first registered in April there is no fee for me! Was surprised, thought the RCVS would be desperate to get more money!

Just spoken to head of reg. it is (listed) not sure if reg is different £61 you can pay online but there is a fee and probably from what she said only credit not debit card?

Can send a check in before the paperwork arrives and you will have a log in code on the paperwork to check on the website that it has gone through as Steph said apparently paperwork is out this week.If you dont go via paperwork make sure all your details inc. rcvs number is sent in with the cheque

now if we were vets we would get friendly reminders 6 months after the time we should have paid. A vet I used to work for was late paying by several months every single year I worked with him, I understand they now get 'fined' for late payment now but this went on for years. Whereas we get the snappy little letter demanding payment and telling us no further reminder will be sent.

I spoke to someone from RCVS yesterday at BVNA congress and she said the letters are going to be sent out this week so we should hopefully have them soon

I totally agree caro. If it's late and it's the RCVS mistake (which it obviously is) there is no way I'm paying anymore of my hard earned wages to them!

I like Sals suggestion but fear it is down to the usual excuse ..computers which means incompetence. However if mine comes and l am not here & miss the deadline as l am away so much l am dammed if l will pay extra for their incompetence. I don't do direct debit as Brian told me he didnt trust rcvs and didnt want me to so like it or not l go by his wishes. I will be ringing them next week and making the points clear to them.
