Has anybody completed this award? Was it useful?
I'm attending the Pre BVNA congress Feline Day and found this award on their website.
I was initially interested in the advanced award but found out that you have to do this one

Re: FAB/ISFM Advanced Award

Hello Claire,

Thank you for the info. I too have worked mainly with cats so I don't think it will the course for me.

My main interest is feline nursing and medicine and I was quite excited to be able to to qualification in this field now I'm back to square one.

I started the DipAVN years ago when you could choose between surgical or medical but the practice were I worked was unable to provide the case studies I needed or unfortunately the support.

May have to look at it again.

Do you have to cover all domestic species or can you tailor it to your special interests?

Thanks again.

I completed the advanced award in feline friendly nursing (at the time, the highest available qualification)

Honestly, the biggest waste of my CPD budget. I can honestly say I don't think I learnt anything. I already had an interest in feline nursing/feline medicine and worked in a cat only practice whilst undertaking the 'qualification' and learned more from hands on experience than from the course. It all seemed very vague, not detailed enough (for me).

I didn't have to 'read around' any subject to be able to answer as I already had substantial knowledge of the subjects (they weren't that difficult, and they didn't require detailed answers either)

Overall I was very disappointed, as a huge fan of FAB and ISFM but I wouldn't personally recommend this course. Particularly if you have any knowledge about cats already.

I read on a previous post that an auxillary nurse had completed the same level course from FAB.

I'm now doing the DipAVN after the FAB course left me unsatisfied.
