I did write a nice reply but then my *insert expletive* blackberry had a fit. Basically. It looks good for the in house basics I guess you are looking to cover. Maybe get a rep to come let you try a few out and then find the one you like cheaper online. Science geek here to help where I can.

must admit Amscope isnt a name I am familiar with. Picture looks ok but cant pass further comment than that. It looks very similar to one I have here now ,which is ok but not very robust. I note that they are assembled on the same production line as Leica and Zeiss - but then so are lots of other things, the kind of price you are looking at there they will not be the same quality, if the optics are good and it hangs together its a good price for a new scope. I also note it has a 5 yr warranty which would suggest it isnt bad but might be worth checking it applies in this country? Might also be be worth checking you can actually plug it in in this country - I have been caught out before.

Some nice prepared slides available from same site - so off to have a more in depth look (could be spending some more pennies by the looks of it)

Thanks for your suggestions...we are just looking for a basic model that will enable us to look at urine, skin scrapes,blood smears at our branch surgery so not wanting to spend alot of money......the vet has had a look through ebay but they are all still too expensive for what we will use it for.

Try having a look on eBay. A lot of the manufacturers sell their wares on there for much cheaper that the medical supply companies etc. My own personal scope is off eBay and is good enough to look at bloods, urines, etc. The usual stuff that a vet will process. I can't remember the brand name right now and its in storage right now. But eBay is definately worth a look.

tho if you can afford a bit extra I would always go for a new one. I may have an old Leica in the garage will have a look over the weekend if you are interested.

Really depends on what you want. I like binocular but I am equally happy with monocular. I presume you will want integral lighting and vernier?

I have the SP60L - its good, not as robust as some of the older microscopes but decent optics. I dont think it would tollerate too much abuse but if looked after is suitable for the average practice and is decently priced. BTW many of the stains are a lot cheaper through this company and in smaller quantities.
