I actually know 2 very well known exotics vets who will administer them together and never had any problems, although I wouldn't recommend that as it goes against manufacturer's recommendations, just goes to show there it is likely very low risk. If the same company made both jabs no doubt they'd have underaken coadministration research or even have a combined jab by now :(

I'll also second the 28d course of panacur. Ignore what intervet say about 9 day courses several times a year, it's just rubbish, a poor interpretation of the available research. After discussing with several exotic specialists at BSAVA last year, I recommend that every bunny should have 28d course at some point in their lives, ideally when they first come home, and then again should they ever come into contact with another rabbit (eg new rabbit in house etc).

Re: Rabbit raves

Well, I don't know. All I can say is that we leave two weeks and all the vets I have ever taken my buns to have left 2 weeks aswell.
She said she spends about 20 mins with each client in consult. She gives advice on as much as poss.

Apparently the practise likes it, as she recommends vaccines and she is even allowed to check teeth and refer people onto the vet for dentals.

She weighs owners bring along their rabbit to thhe consult if they want them weighing and she does a general health check etc.

It sounds like something I would really like to get involved in.

At the conference, one of the lecturers is advising the 2 vaccines 2 weeks apart and then one week later a 28 day course of panacur. You are supposed to clean the rabbits area regularly and especially at day 21 and 28. This appanently is the best way of trying to iradicate E.C at a young age.

I learnt lots of interesting things at the conference.

I cannot think of anything worse than taking a rabbit to an unknown place and subjecting him/her to the sights/sounds and smells of other rabbits. My two would freak out if I did this to them.

I have held rabbit evenings where I have shown a presentation, had a couple of experts speaking and given away loads of info. That is how to do a rabbit educational evening in my view.

[quote user="ej1574"]

No it really really doesn't!!!! It sounds purely for the owners not for the rabbits.

The only point of bringing puppies to puppy parties, is for them to begin socialisation (not needed for rabbits) and to demonstrate training principles, grooming etc with a puppy. The info bit, which is really more important, doesn't need the animals to be there. I can't think of anything worse from a rabbit's point of view than being transported to a strange place and plonked with a pile of other strange rabbits! My rabbit Jess would get very aggressive in that situation, as rescues who have stayed at our house could testify. Most rabbits I see in consults are usually terrified, even the most people-oriented house rabbits are nervous.

I think the idea of an evening for owners to go through good rabbit husbandry is a good idea though. There's never enough time in a consultation to go through everything. Perhaps with one stooge bunny, like your own rabbit that you knew coped well with that situation, to be used to demonstrate handling and grooming etc.

I have just purchased a new book.... it only came out this month.

'Rabbit Medicine and surgery for Veterinary Nurses.'

One of the chapters in it is about Rabbit Clinics.

It gives you all sorts of info on what to do. Apparantly you can have one to one clinics or you could hold an evening where people on along and learn about their rabbits and can ask questions about them. The book even gives sample 'hand-outs' that you can give out to clients.

The book says that it is not as uncommon as you would think. It is not something I have ever seen advertised in a vets but it is something I have wanted to do.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h__2_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rabbit+medicine+and+surgery+for+veterinary+nurses&x=0&y=0&sprefix=rabbit+med

http://www.amazon.com/Rabbit-Medicine-Surgery-Veterinary-Nurses/dp/1405147067/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235727188&sr=8-1

Hope that helps :)

If you want me to email you any actual info from the book, then just let me know, and I can send you a list of things to talk about and some of the tips.
