I guess I should feel lucky that I know my trigger, must be annoying when it just happens out of nowhere. For me it usually happens at gigs because of prolonged standing and stuffy environment. I'm trying to keep better hydrated and trying to take Susan's advice, I have read that if you strengthen your calf muscles through exercise then it can help. As I'm not a Veterinary Nurse yet I hope it won't be an issue because I'd be standing in surgery for long periods of time. All I can do is try and manage it the best I can or think of a different career

I found the STARS site quite helpful as they give a lot of advice for managing blackouts

Hi i have a similar situation i have also fainted when in restaraunts esp if hot or confined, i had ecg / cardiology checks all ok thank god. Although my doctor hasn't sent me for one they are supposed to send you for a tilt test. My doctor just thinks i am loosing the plot and blames anxiety and prescribed Propranolol (which can low BP and cause fainting umm!!!) - i do agree some of it may be anxiety related now because it is embarrassing fainting or feeling very dizzy when out but not at the begining. What i have done is increase my salt content slightly and of course lots of that pointless stuff called water. A friend did give me a newspaper article to read though about a lady who had similar symptoms and whose doctor thought she was mad . Check out www.stars.org.uk or www.bpassoc.org.uk hope this helps.

On the up side we are very very stressed at work and mine is the only BP in normal range.

I think you have the same doctor as my brother, next step is putting you on anti-depressents.

Back to the low BP, when I started at a gym the trainer took my BP and said it was too low, so started me on a course of exercise to build up my heart and muscle strength. She said at time that regular exercise should work to put it normal. After a 6 week training schedule it was back to normal. Before the exercise there was some times when I would get a head rush when stading up but after the 6 weeks it was better.

Re: Low bp

love it!

At work we get stressed moments when I am worse. Don't really understand exactly why but stressed times are when I am most affected.

I proably don't drink enough during the days but in the evenings I drink lots (Never alcohol though - I don't touch that!).

Dr did do some blood tests about 1 yr ago when I very nearly fainted at home one morning and nothing was wrong... not sure what the blood tests were for though!

I too find dr's useless! I usually get put with the locums and hen I actually managed to get an appointment with my own dr, they had cancelled it that day and not told me so i got put with somebody who told me I probably had an ear infection whihc caused me to go really dizzy etc and into a panic attack and to take the rest of the week off work... Wouldn't mind but she even stated there was nothing wrong with my balance and co-ordination at the time of the appt! It took them 2months to tell me i have an allergy that wasn't hayfever - that was when i eventualy saw a nurse (Not a dr) with my eyes all swollen form a reaction the night before! I therefore don't like going to see them!

I will try adding more salt to my meals and see how I get on. I will also try to drink more!

Thanks again

Re: Low bp

I find that whatever I go to the dr about they never seem to do anything about. I have had no specific treatment. As long as I dont make any sudden moves from horizontal to vertical when getting up in the morning, try to lift animals that are too heavy for me (which usually ends up with animal lying on top of me on the floor) or eat a heavy meal (which can also floor me) I am ok. abdominal breathing can help a lot when you are feeling faint, and as previous poster has allready mentioned so can making sure you drink plenty. Standing still for long periods can cause me to drop but if you move around a bit while standing you can usually get round it.

My BP is very low to low most of the time (I feel quite ill when my BP is up) and my resting heart rate is usually low to mid 40's. Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Mine have been borderline low for years but according to GP not low enough to start treatment.

Re: Low bp

Hi i have a similar situation i have also fainted when in restaraunts esp if hot or confined, i had ecg / cardiology checks all ok thank god.
