I got my comformation letter re my practical examinations today, and have been given a slot at Harbury College in Gloucester. My problem is, Gloucester is over 150miles away from me, and i had originally requested to go to Nottingham (which

Re: Practical Centres, anyone had the same problem?

I travelled about 140 miles from London to Nottingham to do my practicals and wasn't impressed. I'd originally put Plumpton as my first option because it was closer and would cost a lot less to get to, but as others have said it's pot luck. If your exams are early morning I'd get a hotel for the night the day before so you don't have to worry about trains getting in or getting lost going by car.

Re: Practical Centres, anyone had the same problem?

I don't mean to be cheeky about it but if I was you I would count yourself lucky thats all you have to travel. All the students from N.Ireland have to travel to England or Scotland to do there exams. I personally had to travel over 100miles to even get the boat or plane to get in the right country. It all added to the stress of it. My advice to you would be if you have an afternoon slot then go as early as possible. If you are early then you can revise in the car but you dont wana be cutting it fine. If its possible even get a bnb for the night before close by.

Hope theyre not tellin porkies :-/ Im just peeved due to the rest of the nurses who i work with have all gone to Preston for their practicals (including re sits) and with all the hasstle ive had with just trying to become a RVN (i got kicked off the NVQ half way through the final year through no fault of my own), im beginning to think that its just not meant to be :'(

This year they have MYF is it? Right down on the south coast, we live in the north of england. As there are so few centres it seems to be you get what your given. Nottingham havnt pulled out as far as i am aware, my colleague is an examiner there and hasnt heard anything about that.

Its just that the busier centres get filled quickly and its just pot luck. Your only real option is to lump it and go where you have a place. If you hold off and go in december you will probably still end up in the same position you are in now

Re: Practical Centres, anyone had the same problem?

I did - albeit 15 yrs ago.
