There some very strange people out there.

It feels like a disposable society. Some people have pets and kids and are happy enough to dump them if it all gets too much, or neglect/batter them til they are no longer alive to be a problem.

Re: This makes me feel physically ill... :(

Why are there so many fucking thick retarded people living on this planet?

I've only just come across this post now. That is so heartbreaking

I'm a vet nurse (Registered Veterinary Technician in Canada) in Nova Scotia, Canada and you would be disgusted at how frequently we get these types of calls/situations. There aren't many animal charities here and all of them rely solely on donations--so very little money to go around. Most people have to pay entirely out of pocket for treatment, even if they are low-income. We always strongly recommend pet insurance, but not many people go for it...so, this isn't as uncommon as one would hope.

Most vets will come to an agreement about paying the bill in installments, and I know that my clinic has people surrender animals or has pts for free. Very sad situations :(

We run an adoption program at work and I always go over what the real costs of pet care are--such an important thing for new owners to consider!!!!!

You try and offer advice which is either rejected in favour of something the neighbour/ dog breeder/ pet holistic healer and behaviourist has said and you are made out to be the idiot or people just plain dont want to listen to the obvious.

You cannot help some people - which is unfortunate for their animals, but you have to protect yourself, and that means not getting so wound up about something you can do sod all about - its tough I know, but thats life
