The vets ran tests and said he's anaemic and they think this has been caused by poisoning. He has very low red/white cells and platelets. His m ms are pale, there is some

Re: anaemia in puppy

[quote user="Katie Drew"]

Lungworm??

This was my first thought too. My boss was saying to a client the other day that any dogs that come in for coughing he now treats for lung worm as well as for kennel cough, and I've seen a few emergency cases where the owners have said they have had lungworm. Never used to hear so much about it but now it seems to be everywhere.

Hopefully the puppy will be better soon. There's so many reasons for anaemia so it's just a process of ruling out each one. I assume other bloods were fine? Well good luck.

Re: anaemia in puppy

No bleeding, just as described. The house is full of kids so I think possibly chocolate poisoning. He's not been given fluids or meds. I told them to use advocate but they didn't so also lungworm is a possibility I guess.

Re: anaemia in puppy

sounds like a pancytopaenia of some description if he was just anaemic then i'd have said IMHA, with the platlets IMTP but with the white cells as well hmmmm have they done any imaging of any description? Bone Marrow biopsy would be beneficial as well. It could be poisoning have they done clotting times? any obvious signs of bleeding...haematuria, meleana, petechiae?

Re: anaemia in puppy

Parvo?
