That's not really relevant to our abbatoirs by the way, it was just something which popped into my head!!!

Re: Petition to help prevent cruelty in abbatoirs

[quote user="Angharad Seabury"]

I just cant beleive abbatoirs in this country are allowed to get away with that sort of thing going on. I myself am from a farming family & yes we do send animals to slaughterhouses on a regular basis but we ensure they go to small local ones that are approx 20 mins away & are family run who respect the animals & get the job & process done as quickly & calmy as possible. As a result I beleive we result in less stressed animals & far better quality meat & that its never going to be a nice process to go through but you can at least minimise the stress by using quality slaughterhouses of whom the workers from our ones actually pride themselves on doing a decent job & the quality of meat they provide to local butchers, but also by sending livestock in smaller numbers - a thing that our locals also state is they will not take more than a certain number of animals in per day, & also I beleive that they shouldnt have to travel long distances prior to slaughter as this also is proven to cause undue stress.

I'll still continue to always eat meat but I always stand by knowing where my meat has come from & buying british & locally, Basically I beleive we've spent all of their lives right from birth up until slaughter providing them with the nicest lives possible so why cant you try & find somewhere that can do the dreaded deed as nicely as possible? xx

You have pretty much said what I was going to.

I am now a meat eater after 20 odd years of being vegetarian I know exactly where my meat comes from it is locally reared and slaughtered. I support the aims of this petition whole heartedly so long as it isnt going to turn into a heated discussion group that says everybody should be vegetarian and all meat eaters are bad which has happened so many times before. So I will hang fire from signing for now until I can be sure.

Re: Petition to help prevent cruelty in abbatoirs

Agree with everything you say Angharad.

Re: Petition to help prevent cruelty in abbatoirs

I just cant beleive abbatoirs in this country are allowed to get away with that sort of thing going on.
