I am currently enrolled on the ANA course. I originally wanted to go straight onto the NVQ course as I had the grades to do it. The place I am working said I had to do the ANA though. They make everyone do the ANa first. So, I started the ANA

Re: Carry on with ANA or not?

[quote user="Nick Shackleton"]

I would personally suggest that you complete the ANA, it shows dedication/staying power. Althou you don't nescessarially need the qualification.

For example if you wish to apply for another course once you've qualified such as HE DipAVN or 'Top up' BSc, it won't look good that you didnt complete. Hope this makes sense.....

Anyways, good luck with wot you decided.

Well said I agree.

But as you have not got long left why not complete it.. It would be a bit of a shame if you decided to quit now! Then you def have that under your belt should you encounter any problems with the VN ie unable to complete training for any reason... also the VN portfolio is completly different to the ANA, but by doing the ANA one you can try and prepare your self for all the extra hard work you will need to put in!!

Good luck in whatever you decide!!

Re: Carry on with ANA or not?

Oooh - I can see both sides here, but if I was you I think I would be inclined to ditch the ANA and crack on with the NVQ course... As you say, you have done most of the ANA course, which will help you with your NVQ....

Can also see why it would be good to finish the ANA, and get it done and dusted. When would you be due to qualify as an ANA? Could you not start the Jan intake of NVQ instead of Sept?

Re: Carry on with ANA or not?

Thats kind of what I thought.

A lot of people say it is another qualification to put on my CV but I already have quite a lot including 12 GCSE's, a GNVQ, BTEC and an BA Hons degree.

I just feel that I could really have a good go at my portfolio and get started with what it was that I actually wanted to do.

Grr its such a decision to make :(

I have just spoken to my college lecturer... she said she would support me either way.

I am mulling it over in my head now! I am supposed to be in college tomorrow but cannot go, so I have a full week until I am supposed to be in again. That means I have lots of time to think about it.

Is there anyone who thinks it would be a good idea to start my portfolio and get stuck into my nvq stuff?

I personally would crack on with the NVQ. a lot of my friends did ANA before NVQ and found it helpful but on the other hand I had a lot of friends who didnt do the ANA and managed perfectly well (me included)

Would make more sense to me personally to crack on with NVQ portfolio and get started asap? x goodluck x

Re: Carry on with ANA or not?

I have just spoken to my college lecturer... she said she would support me either way.

Any knowledge you can gain will help you in the future and make you that much more knowledgeable and savvy to the work you wish to do!
I was amazed to get a distinction let alone pass, as i was a mature student. It also makes you think about what you're doing and why. The girls that wanted to go straigt onto the VN training were very glad that they had done the ANA course 1st as it helped them get back into study mode and self-diciipline.
