Phrin, I've got a couple scars right on my wrist from a crazy cat a couple months ago ~ they're very badly placed, lol. For weeks while they were still raw it looked really bad.

I agree that gloves are the way to go and keep a close eye on it.

Re: cut finger.... :/

Yowch! :(

I would keep it covered too, wear gloves etc. Keep a close eye and if it starts swelling or you start to feel unwell get down the docs armed with info about cat scratch fever - just to make sure they take it seriously

I have been scratched by cats a fair few times with no probs, but I met a client whose young son ended up in intensive care due to cat scratch fever! Scary! Although rare - but just illustrates why docs should take such injuries seriously.

I have a scar on my right hand from a siamese cat castrate - he got one of his hind leg claws in me just as the saffan *eek* went in iv off the needle - I stupidly hung on for dear life, and now have a lovely 1.5" scar almost 10 years later

Re: cut finger.... :/

Oooh looks ouchie! Personally if it keeps re-opening then I'd keep it covered with a waterproof plaster of the sort that you can leave on for a few days to give it a chance to heal (also wear gloves to protect it when doing things such as cleaning kennels, washing instruments etc). Keep an eye on it cos cats have all sorts of nasties in their claws (not surprising when you think of what they do with the things!). On the note of war wounds really wish I'd taken a picture of my rather gruesome looking finger after a ferret tried to make it his next meal, ended up with a lovely swollen finger with a rather fetching white bandage on courtesy of the local A&E dept. Still got little red marks several months after event and it's really only recently gone back to normal size and stopped being stiff to bend.
