I did my first stint of work experience in year 10 when i would have been 15 (the year group being made up of 14/15 yr olds). I was allowed to watch operations, nurses clinics and vet consultations and was shown how to clean up theatre and kennels and help with kits and drapes. Six months later I went back to request some more work experience as it had confirmed that this was exactly what I wanted to do and I stayed on as a work experience for another three and a half years before I applied for my current trainee placement.

Work experience was one of the best things I've ever done and it certainly helped me decide what I wanted to do and allowed me to see exactly what I would be getting into, I think if you stop people being ae to get work experience you are just complicating the process of young people getting a job in the veterinary industry as you would be making it more difficult for them to get the work experience that many placements require.

just because of the legal part and paperwork we only take children over 16yrs off their own back. If the schools are organising it then we will have them younger but only if they come in the designated school week. then the school does all the paperwork.

My first work experience was when I was 14. We had to do 2 week W/E in year 10.
